Across most Indian cities, managing old dumpsites has become a major challenge. Many landfill sites have already reached their limits and can no longer handle additional waste. As per Swachh Bharat Reports 2020, India loses over 1,250 hectares of valuable land every year due to unscientific and illegal legacy waste dumping. This makes land reclamation an urgent national priority.

India currently recycles only 20–25% of its total waste, leaving a large portion untreated. This untreated waste seeps into the soil, polluting the environment and degrading land quality.
